Germaine Greer's article is very complicated and confusing the first time it’s been read. However she has some very valid points. The Australian Kimberley way of art and having someone sacred taking a special route and 'bathe in the clean, cold water of the deep gorges' just to prove they are sacred. I find this so interesting to think about. Sacred being just another word for separate. Once I thought about that it makes so much sense. Sacred means Separate. And artwork is at its best when it is separate. In this circumstance separate meaning original and different. Andy Warhol's art was definitely different from anything ever done before but was it art? I think it’s simply another type of art. Its pop art, still art none the less. I think that anything done in a creative way on Photoshop, hands on and using different materials, building sculptures no matter who the person is that's doing it. It’s still art. To me good art is something that other people can look at for ages, something that shows depth and is interesting to look at.
Graffiti is a strong type of art because people go out to do it because they want to. Something in their head is telling them what to do and how to do it. Graffiti artists produce good art work because they haven't been told or sometimes even taught how to do it by others. They do it themselves instinctively, teaching themselves through the creativity in their minds. What is art? To me; anything produced by a person who has a passion to create. What is good art? Who knows.
